Archives of Dissent

Archives of Dissent will serve as a gathering for new vernaculars of the geohistorical, to assemble spatial imaginaries that refuse rather than relent to the insistent march of capital, authoritarianism and empire. To “dissent” here is an invitation to think more about the messiness and stakes of our intellectual labors across and through histories of violence and dispossession. As such, we hope to forge vibrant, nuanced and regionally specific collaborations on dissent as they engage global challenges around food security, human rights, environmental ecologies, gender justice and more. Archives of dissent, as we imagine it here, will document challenges to disciplinary, temporal, and epistemological conventions and are, as such, the basis for practices of solidarity. Three questions are central to the project: First, how have our current histories of occupation and authoritarianism generated and impacted projects of dissent? Second, how have histories of dissent across regions been re-ordered within new terrains of escalating violence and devastation? Third, how can our collaborations inspire new ways of writing the past and envisioning the future? At the heart of this project is a commitment to dialogue, deliberation, and a renewed sense of possibility for a world in peril.
