Book Forum: Zahid Chaudhary, Paranoid Publics: Psychopolitics of Truth

criticalnoise

Today we begin publishing our first book forum, a set of essays critically engaged with Zahid Chaudhary’s Paranoid Publics: Psychopolitics of Truth (Fordham 2025). Chaudhary, through a provocative intermingling of Foucault and Freud, excavates the contemporary psychosocial conditions of truth in the world of alternative facts, conspiracy, and widespread paranoia. An essential critical work on contemporary psychic conditions, conditions which are neither epiphenomenal nor mere psychologizing, Paranoid Publics reconfigures the very terms of analysis of politics and culture. This forum includes incisive critical engagements from Robyn Wiegman, Brian Connolly, Ben Baer, Eva Cherniavsky, and Christina A. León, as well as a response from Chaudhary. The review essays will appear between April 13-April 17, 2026, followed by the response from Chaudhary.
